Planning to have children will be easier for women, especially those who might have an early menopause. According to IVF Australia, a new test meant for detecting the possibility of early menopause will help in doing so. The test has been named ‘egg timer’ helps a women to find out approximately how many eggs are present in her ovaries and lets her know how fertile is she.
Medical Director of IVF Australia, Associate Professor Peter Illingworth, says the test will help women to timely opt for a complex fertility treatment. A woman has about one to two million eggs and they are used every month until menopause.
He said, "The test is particularly helpful for women who've had cancer treatments or women who've had surgery on their ovaries, as this allows women to assess the effects of that treatment on their future fertility. It will identify women who are at risk of having a premature menopause for example and allow women to plan how active they should be about fertility treatment."
The new test has been welcomed by ACCESS, Infertility information support and advocacy group.
According to spokesperson Marie Pickins at times there is no medical explanation why a couple is infertile and research in related field is always welcome.
After being proved as the best known indicator of fertility, IVF Australia would offer the test, which would be cheap also from the next month.
