The Pregnancy Resource Connection, Inc. hosted a successful “Baby Bottle Fundraiser” and PRC Mountain Scramble — Run For A Life. The group had 11 participating churches that made its baby bottles available to their congregations, with the largest gifts amounting over $4,600.

Decongestants Helpful In Cutting The Risk Of Premature Birth: As per a study done by American researcher, over-the-counter decongestants used to relieve nasal congestion during pregnancy have the potential to cut the risk of preterm birth in expecting mothers.The study leader and epidemiologist at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH), Rohini Hernandez, said in a press release:

“Maybe this can provide some clues as to how to prevent preterm delivery. The more we can learn about what could potentially cause preterm birth would help our understanding in how to stop it." "Medication use is a major concern for pregnant women and generally, when medications are found to have effects on the foetus, they're usually found to have adverse effects. This was surprising in that a potentially beneficial effect was found," added Hernandez.

Tips Of Pregnancy: Antiviral Drugs Safe During Pregnancy: Mothers who are exposed to certain antiviral drugs during the first trimester of pregnancy do not face an increased risk of birth defects, according to a new study. Researchers from Denmark conducted the study to determine if there was an association between the use of the antiviral drugs acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir and major birth defects in women who used the treatments during their pregnancies. These drugs are often used to treat herpes simplex and herpes zoster infections.

Results showed among the 1,804 pregnancies exposed to acyclovir, valacyclovir or famciclovir at any time in the first trimester, 2.2 percent of infants had a major birth defect compared to 2.4 percent of infants who were not exposed to the drugs during pregnancy.

For this study, researchers from the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the University of Oxford charted the ovulation cycles of 274 English women, ages 18 to 40, who were trying to conceive.

The results showed that women were less likely to conceive when they showed elevated levels of a stress-related substance called alpha-amylase. Alpha-amylase is secreted into saliva in order to digest starch. The researchers used the substance as an indicator of the body's response to physical or psychological stress because it's also released when the nervous system produces catecholamines, compounds that initiate a type of stress response.

A new study has suggested that women who conceive within six months of an initial miscarriage have the best chance of having a healthy pregnancy with the lowest complication rates. Lead author, Sohinee Bhattacharya from University of Aberdeen, says that current World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines recommending that women who experience a miscarriage should wait at least six months before getting pregnant again may need to be reviewed.

Women who experience a miscarriage are not only at an increased risk of a second miscarriage, says the study, but also of complications in a subsequent pregnancy. Around one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage before 24 weeks.
