A pregnant 21-year-old woman was injured today when her vehicle overturned on Carpenter Road south of Ann Arbor after striking a car in front of her that was attempting to make an illegal U-turn, according to Pittsfield Township police.

The woman, a resident of Pittsfield Township, was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital with non life-threatening injuries and concerns related to her pregnancy, according to a statement from police. The driver of the vehicle attempting to make the U-turn, a 43-year-old Saline man, also was injured and was taken to U-M Hospital for non life-threatening injuries, police said.

According to police, both vehicles were southbound on Carpenter Road, one mile north of Bemis Road, about 10:35 a.m. today when the vehicle driven by the man attempted a U-turn. The woman's vehicle was behind his and hit his vehicle when he tried to make the U-turn, causing her vehicle to overturn. Carpenter Road was shut down for about three hours while police investigated.
