32-year-old Kelly Bottom, of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, told the local Advocate-Messenger newspaper that she at first thought she just needed to use the toilet - and it was only when she started experiencing pain that she realised she was delivering a child.
After successfully giving birth and cutting the umbilical cord herself, her first thought was that she was supposed to pick up her 7-year-old son from school. She tried to call the boy's father, but he was operating heavy machinery and couldn't hear the phone.'I cleaned myself up the best I could and went to the school,' she told the Advocate-Messenger. She then also called in on the baby's father's mother, before finally going to the hospital.
'When we first got to the emergency room, the woman there thought I meant I had him a few weeks and not a few hours before,' Bottom said.
The baby, a 6 lbs. 15 oz boy named Brian Keith Sims, is doing well, and the mother and child have now left hospital.
